The requests that come in from Fremantle, East Fremantle, Beaconsfield, Hamilton Hill and Spearwood are mostly about paint and plaster: a hole patched, a wall made good, a ceiling repaired and painted so you cannot see where the damage was. A good share are lists from people getting a property ready to hand back or sell. This page starts there, then covers bathrooms, weathered timber outside, and the smaller fitting jobs, and is plain about what we pass on.
Patching and repainting
This is the largest group of work from these suburbs, and almost none of it is a full repaint. Fixing holes left in a TV wall once the bracket comes down. Ceiling and wall holes left after a pendant light or wall plates have been removed. A spot touched up with the wrong colour that now shows in daylight. A single feature wall repainted.
The patch matters more than the paint. Holes are filled, sanded and primed so the repair sits flush, then the paint is feathered out or the wall is finished to a natural break, such as a corner, so it does not show as a square on the wall. If you still have the original paint, tell us; if not, we match it as closely as we can and say honestly that an exact match on aged paint is never certain.
Paint that bubbles or flakes off a wall is a different job. Painting over it only lasts until the moisture behind it pushes the new coat off too. We look at what is causing it first, and if the cause is something we cannot fix, such as a plumbing leak or water coming through the structure, we tell you before quoting a repair. See painting repairs and wall and ceiling repairs.
We paint what we repair, plus single rooms and outdoor sections such as eaves, downpipes or a porch. We do not quote whole-house repaints.
Handing back or selling a property
Two of the longer requests here came from people on a deadline: a tenant fixing a mark on a wall before the bond inspection, and an owner preparing a house for sale with paint touch-ups, ceiling cracks, a torn flyscreen and pictures to rehang.
For a break-lease patch, the aim is to repair the damaged area alone, not to repaint the whole wall, and to leave it so the inspection finds nothing to question. If you have matching paint, it saves a step. For a pre-sale list, send the whole list and it is quoted as one fixed price with every item named, so you and your agent can see exactly what will be done before photos are taken. See rental and property maintenance.
Bathrooms: seals, tiles and water-damaged ceilings
Bathroom work from these suburbs is repair work. Mould has got into the silicone around a shower or bath and the seals need cutting out and replacing. Tiles cracked when an old vanity came out and need replacing on the wall around the new one; see tile repairs. A bathroom ceiling has been damaged by water and needs repairing and repainting.
For the ceiling, the question is where the water came from. If the leak has been fixed, we replace or patch the damaged section and paint it. If it has not, repairing the ceiling first just means repairing it twice. See bathroom repairs and updates, and if you are not sure where the water is coming from, see building leaks.
Timber and weather outside
A steady share of requests is outside work. Cedar panels on the side of a house chewed through by birds, with replacement boards already bought and a deterrent wanted so it does not happen again. Weathered timber in a sleep-out. A small roof vent that needs replacing. A safety rail beside a front path.
For timber, we replace what is damaged and match the profile as closely as the supply allows, then seal or paint it to suit what is around it. For decks and steps, see decking repairs. Where you have bought the material, we fit it, and we tell you up front if it will not suit the spot.
Smaller fitting jobs
The rest are short jobs: new handles across a set of kitchen cabinets, a dining table and bench assembled, security wires run across a ground-floor balcony. These are often added to a bigger visit. See flatpack assembly and installation.
What we pass on
Some of what comes in from this area is licensed or builder work, and we do not quote it. Fitting a toilet is plumbing. Enlarging a shower is a builder's job, because it means waterproofing and moving drainage. A dishwasher that will not clean needs an appliance technician. Roof tiles go to a roofer. If one of these is on your list next to other jobs, the quote names who you need and prices the rest.
Every quote is a fixed price for the job, not a block of hours. Typical ranges are on what a handyman costs in Perth.
Getting a quote
Use the form below with your suburb, what needs doing and a few photos. For patch-and-paint work, one photo close up and one from across the room tells us most of what we need. Most jobs are quoted from photos, and you get one written price, valid seven days, free of charge. We work Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm, and we are closed on Sunday.
North Fremantle, South Fremantle, White Gum Valley, Hilton, O'Connor and Samson are part of the same area, even though nothing has come through from them yet. For the rest of Perth we cover, see where we work.
